Yard Sale – Yes, No, Maybe

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 9:29 am

Kennedy is begging me to have a yard sale.  Long story short, his friend  wanted a Wii and his mother told him he would have to have make the money for the Wii by selling some of his toys.  This family is a shopping family and they have EVERYTHING.  Anyway, the father lost his job 15 months ago and still hasn’t found work.  They have stopped buying stuff so the only way the friend could get to Wii was to sell some of his toys.   The yard sale was a great success more than $2500 and the friend made enough for his Wii.

Kennedy has to have a laptop for boarding school.  We have four people and four computers – two laptops and two desktops.  Kennedy’s is a desktop. I really don’t want to go through all the trouble but I am sure he can make several hundred dollars.  I should also say that I have given him a limit of how much I will pay for a laptop.  He is convinced that the one he has to have is about $200 more than I am willing to pay.

We live in yard sale heaven.  One sign at the entrance and the people will come.  Also, this is prime yard sale time.

I guess I should let him has the yard sale but I dread the work involve.  He could plan a date for a few weeks away and spend part of spring break getting everything ready.

Is it worth the work?

The Saddest Thing I’ve Seen

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 12:37 pm

This is one of the saddest stories I’ve seen in a long time.  Lady was dead for more than a year before anyone realized it.

We live in the historic district and have several neighbors that are 80-90 years old.   We are usually in daily contact with them.  Especially the ones with children out of state.

I’m Freaking Out

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 9:08 am

To use Kennedy’s comment – “Mom, you need to stop freaking out”.  It is finally sinking in that he may actually leave and go to boarding school.  I am totally overwhelmed.  Both emotionally and financially.  I’ve tried to calculate the extra expenses and it runs into the thousands.

I’ll be back later today or sometime this weekend after I have calmed down.

Mystery Shopping Advice

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 1:06 pm

I am considering looking for companies that hire mystery shoppers.  I don’t  know anything about this so would appreciate any information.  Good companies.  Companies to stay away from.

I’m not really looking into this to make money. More to be able to try a few products or places to eat for free.

I would love to hear from you if you have any info.  Feel free to reply here or to e-mail me.

Help Job & Resume Questions

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 10:20 pm

I have been saying for the past two years that if XXX position came open I was going to apply.  I just found out that my dream job has an opening.    Here is the problem.  I haven’t worked in 15 years.  I have no “job experience” for the position.  I know the job and everything it requires.  I have been sort of doing this for free for about 3 years for individuals.  My past career has absolutely nothing to do with this new position.

What is the best way to state this on the resume?  Should I put my work experience that is more than 15 years old?  What should I do to sell myself to the interviewer?

I’m Running Late

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 10:19 am

One reason I hate to say that I will make a certain post on a certain day is that something always comes up.

Looks like this virus / flu lasts much longer than I expected.  So I’m running late getting the Credit Card posts up.

I apologize for not having yesterday’s and today’s post ready.

Am I the only one having problems getting blogs to load?  There have been a couple that would load but at least 40 that I have tried won’t.

It Feels Like Wednesday

Filed under: Uncategorized — ambercouric @ 10:32 am

Be warned this post will go all over the place.  So many things going on.

When I wrote last I was going to work on my taxes.  Well, they are DONE.  I’m getting a little back and I will put that on my car.  I am so sick of this car payment.  It seems like it will never end.  Kinda like when I was a child and the ride to Grandma’s seemed so short but the ride home seemed like it took an extra five hours.  Well, this car payment seems like it will last forever.  I know it won’t but it just seems that the time between checks barely moves.

This is not PF related but I thought someone may have some advice.  I have a good friend that has a tendency to interject herself or her children in whatever my children or I am doing.  My son is a runner and has been for years.  When a neighbor that is part of a running club invited my son to participate in a race she sent her son to and her son had never run.  Every single extra curricular activity my children do she tries to send one of her children to do it with them.    Anyway, the latest issue it that I have planned a trip and she INVITED herself.  She has already taken the time off and is ready to go.  How do I uninvite her?  She can be loud and embarrassing and I really don’t won’t her on this trip.  My husband says I’m stuck but there has to be a way out.  Any ideas?
