I’m So Glad It Is Friday

Filed under: Random — ambercouric @ 8:46 am

This has been such a long week.  I have accomplished – ZERO – ZILCH – absolutely nothing.  I think the problem is that  my husband has had extra days off and Ashby has been home a couple of extra days since it is final exams.

I’m glad it is Friday because I don’t clean on the weekends so I can quit thinking I need to get up and clean whatever.   It will all wait until Monday.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I’ve spent the last three days watching the news and seeing the fires burn.   This is extremely sad.

Now, I just have to say something.  I understand being evacuated ( this is hurricane country).  I also understand the need (desire) to know what is going on with your home.  What I don’t understand is the people who are constantly complaining about not being able to get back into their homes.  The officials keep saying “as soon as it is SAFE”.    The officials are working around the clock and doing everything they can.   I just wish the tempers would cool a little and people would step back and realize that there has been a tremendous  accomplishment in that no lives have been lost.

I’m hoping the winds slow down.  Unfortunately, we aren’t expecting rain for at least a week.

Just Pack Up and Move

Filed under: Journey to Debt Freedom,Random — ambercouric @ 9:22 am

My husband and I often talk about moving once the boys are out of the house.   Our plans usually revolve around moving to Hilton Head or another similar area.   My husband is really interested in moving to New Mexico (remember we live in the south) so this would be a major move.

Last night I suggested we put the house on the market and once it sells we pack up and move to New Mexico or somewhere.  We won’t be in a hurry but we’ll start the process.  Once we get to where ever we are going we can look for jobs.  I know this sounds risky but we have a guaranteed income of $25,000 a year but with no debt  plus 6 months  living expenses (really it’s more like a year expenses since we will be debt free) so we can easily survive.

My kids love the idea of us moving since they will only be home during the summers.

I know with the economy it is pretty crazy to think like this.  Would you ever consider just packing up and moving?  Do you know of great places in New Mexico we should look into?

Crime Up Due To The Economy?

Filed under: Random — ambercouric @ 9:31 pm

The last couple of days have been a little strange around here.  I have two favorite grocery stores that I go to.  The closest I go to for emergency stuff and the other I do regular shopping.  In the last couple of days people have been robbed at both of the stores.  Both of these stores are in the upscale part of town and I have never heard of any problems.  Then another food store just down from one of the grocery stores was robbed.

Today I took my car to the car wash (I know I could do it myself and save the $$$) and someone stole all of my change and $1.  The total was probably about $7.  Not a big deal but I have been going here for years and I always leave the change.  Actually, they didn’t steal ALL of the change they left the pennies.  I know I shouldn’t have left the money in the car and it was my fault for leaving .  I guess I’m wondering if the economy is causing  people to do things they wouldn’t normally do.

Help Need Advice

Filed under: Random — ambercouric @ 11:11 am

My dad just called and asked for my SS#.  He has to update our life insurance policies (I had no idea he had a life insurance policy on me).  Anyway, he bought the poicy years before it required a SS#.  Now he wants me to give him my number.  I completely trust my dad.  BUT he recently married a lady who has been married 5 times and is just a few years older than I am.  She married him for his money (my opinion only) but I just don’t trust my SS# in her hands.

So, what should I do?  My husband said he can either cancel the policy or give it to us and let us handle it.  I don’t really want to cause problems but I really don’t TRUST this women.

Snow Day, Vet Visit, A New Coat

It’s SNOWING in South Carolina.  I mean it is really snowing.  Has been for several hours now.  Snow here usually lasts about 5 minutes.  Today we are supposed to have snow for about 6-8 hours.  I’m not sure how much will accumulate but there is a good chance that things will be shut down again tomorrow.  That is both good and bad.  I have so much to do that just can’t be done with people here.  The dogs are loving the snow and so is Kennedy.  So we will sit by the fire with hot chocolate all day.

The puppy had another vet visit yesterday.  This one was $98.  She got her last set of puppy shots and some medication for her ears.  I never knew that dogs with long floppy ears tend to have ear infections.  My little animal shelter rescue pup is becoming a DESIGNER pup very quickly.

Remember THE LIST – Well Ashby went out with friends over the weekend.  I think another friend needed a coat so they went to the mall to find one.  Ashby called to say he found a coat on sale.  It wasn’t leather and I have no idea what it looks like but he got it for $13 from Old Navy.  He said it was originally around $100.  He was quite proud of himself and I must say I was quite proud too.  Sounded like the deals were so good several of the boys bought coats.

Home Alone

Today is the first day since the beginning of December that I am home alone.  DH is at work, Ashby is back at college, Kennedy is in school and the dogs are loving the backyard (unsupervised).

I am going to spend the day catching up on all the cleaning, menu planning and of course reading all the blogs that I have neglected the last few days.

Hope everyone has a great Monday and I’ll be back tomorrow with some personal finance stuff.

A Great Relaxing Holiday

Filed under: Random — ambercouric @ 4:52 pm

Hope everyone had a great holiday.  We had a nice quite couple of days.  My husband has said at least three times that this was the best Christmas.  This was by far the simplest Christmas we have ever spent.  We all did volunteer work, Ashby served a holiday meal at the homeless shelter.  Kennedy participated in the soup kitchen’s Christmas party for the children.  He was able to see the excitement of the children receiving the hats, mittens and socks he collected for the Giving Tree.  We also had the opportunity to help a local family with food.

DH’s parents came over on Christmas Day and his mother had cooked all of the children’s favorite foods.  Which means we had double food.  We will be eating leftovers for days.  My FIL has been sick and they weren’t sure they were up for a lot of company.  So they came by here for a few minutes.

The only downside to the holiday was our new puppy developed a rash and had to go to the vet this morning.  She was given some medicine and should be fine in a few days.

I am going to spend the next few hours catching up on reading all the PF blogs.  Hopefully, by next week, I’ll have several great new blogs added to my blogroll.
