Teenagers Making Wise Money Decisions

My son came home yesterday and informed me that he and his friends had decided they were going to start having a game night.  Each weekend they usually go somewhere like movies, out to eat or the game park just somewhere to hang out without parents.  Several of his friends have parents who are facing hard times – one owns a local store and business isn’t good and another parent has been laid off since last school year and another has been ordered to take mandatory unpaid vacation to keep from losing her job.

The kids made the plans on their own and made a schedule to be approved by the adults.  They are on a five week rotation so the parents will know when it is their turn to host the night.  This sounds much like adults deciding to dine with friends at home instead of eating out so I am proud that these kids made this choice.

Hopefully, these kids will grow up to make the same types of wise financial decisions.

****Another subject entirely, my son has to take his test for All Academic Team today.  He is quite nervous so if you could send some positive thoughts his way I’m sure he will appreciate it.  Thanks***

  1. Good for them!! You must be so proud of your son! And you’re clearly teaching him how to be smart with his time and money!

  2. I write a blog on teaching kids about money: – we can help our kids grow up to make the wise financial decisions we would like them to make!

  3. Wow, your kids constantly amaze me with their maturity. I hope my son makes similar choices when he is older.

  5. Tell your son lots of people are rooting for him today and sending him lots of positive energy! You must be so proud of your boys. Reading your blog makes me a little less scared of my kids becoming teenagers!

  6. Thanks to all of you. I do have great boys. Sometimes when they are outside wrestling in mud puddles in their new white socks I wonder- yes they still do that sometimes. Those are the times that my husband always reminds me of the kids that he had to represent that had murdered, sold drugs, etc. and if the worst that happens is that I have to throw out some socks then lots of parents would want to trade with me.

Thanks also to all those rooting for K. to make Academic Team. We should find out Thursday if he made it.

  7. That is a fantastic idea! Perhaps, I will relay that idea to my son and his friends. Least, we know where they are! 🙂

And I hope that you son did well on his test!
