First Credit Card

Filed under: Credit Cards — ambercouric @ 6:28 pm

I have often read that credit card companies like to get college students because a person is more likely to be loyal to the bank that first gave them a card.

While reading Moving on up!s blog about paying off 44% of her debt she stated her next challenge is “the evil that calls themselves Citibank”, I actually laughed because I have such a negative feeling about Citibank. They were the ones who gave me a credit card while I was in college. Never had any problems with them and let go of that card years ago.

Do you still have the first card you got? How do you feel about the bank that gave you that first card?

  1. I went with American Express when I got my first credit card and I’m still with them today. That said, I’ve never had a credit card debt and I did my research before going with them thus making sure I was getting the best deal out there. 🙂

  2. Hi there-I can’t remember my very 1st card, it could be barclaycard, and spookily enough, this is who I’m with now-the account is only a month old, the one and only now, I hasten to add!!

  3. My first credit card was during college. I think I had a Montgomery Ward card. I bought a t.v., used the discount, and paid it off.
It was about 5 years later before I started spending money and not paying it off. Then the debt got to be enormous in about 5 years!

  4. Still paying on my CITI card from college!! I had close to 15,000 on it at one point! they have been great, never any issues, they’ve never raised my rates or anything negative.

  5. My first card was from MBNA… they got bought out by Bank of America. That’s become pretty convenient for me since I switched over to them as my primary bank a couple years ago (although the fact I can’t take advantage of 0% balance transfer offers between them sucks). I like having everything in one place. 🙂

  6. I can’t remember my first credit card; I know it was in college. I’m thinking it was citibank. After that, I got a few other major cards and then a ton of store cards. Thank goodness those things are all gone and paid off. Now I have no credit card, but I do need to get one.

  7. My first card is gone with the wind as the company was purchased by another, and now is part of something else. Those first cards sure entice you in with the free tshirts and frisbees, don’t they?
